In last week’s post I outlined the benefits of social media as a donor relationship tool. This week, a look at the top three reasons social media is also great for managing relationships with volunteers.

1.  Social media is all about relationships

Most of your current volunteers are already on social media. And since they’re volunteering with you, they’re also already passionate about your cause. Chances are they’re talking about you with their friends and family. Social media enables you to join the conversation. You can share information, demonstrate your appreciation and solicit feedback from volunteers – all great ways to deepen your relationship.

2.  Social media is visible

Having an online presence offers you a wider audience than you’d have otherwise. Every time you share videos, photos and information with your current volunteers there’s a good chance you’ll also reach the members of their various social networks. In demonstrating just how awesome you treat your volunteers, you just might gain some new ones!

3. Social media is current and relevant

There’s no denying the popularity of social media and it won’t be going away anytime soon. One of the key benefits of this is that it appeals to people of all ages and demographics. This means you’ll be able to form relationships with young volunteers, in particular.
